January Q and A a Day 2017

So I got myself a bunch of fancy journals last year and they have been collecting dust on my bookshelf.  Cleaning my bookshelves is another one of my big goals this year.  I have decided to use my fancy prompt journals for blogging.  This one is my favourite, it is one of those ones where you have a question a day and you ask yourself the same one every year and see how the answers have changed.

January 1: What is your mission?

My mission this year is to organize my life.

January 2: Can people change?

I think that people can change if they really want to and really try hard.

January 3: What are you reading right now?

Right now I am reading Star Wars: Aftermath.  I listened to the Audiobook last year and I loved it but to be honest I do not feel the same way about reading the book.  Just not feeling it on paper and I am sad about that.

January 4: What was the best part of today?

Getting to spend quality time with my dad, it is not something that happens very often.

January 5: What was the last restaurant that you went to?

We went to St. Loius Wings on New Year's Eve.  It was not as good as I usually find it.  Weight Watcher's really is starting to change my mindset towards food.

January 6: Today was tough because?

It's the last day the kids are off school before winter break ends and they are getting restless.

January 7: You are lucky; how so or not so?

I consider myself to be very lucky, I have my health, a good job and a wonderful support system.

January 8: What song is stuck in your head?

The Yellow Submarine.  Ever since we went to Ripley's.

January 9: Was today typical? Why or why not?

It was an interesting day.  The kids went back to school and regularly scheduled activities after being off for two weeks so everyone was a bit off.

January 10: Write down something that inspired you today.

It might not seem inspiring but it is.  I am inspired to start following my own brilliant advice.

January 11: Today you lost....

Another pound!  Well more like this week but hey, this is my answer right?

January 12: What's your favourite accessory?

I won a BB8 necklace from The Colorful Geek over the holidays.  I wear it every day now.

January 13: Where do you want to travel next?

Usually my answer to this would be anywhere warm however these days I really do not want to travel to anywhere in the United States.

January 14: Are you a leader of a follower?

I would say that I am more of a leader.

January 15: On a scale of one to ten, how was your lunch today?

I would say that my lunch was about a 4.  Since starting Weight Watchers my lunches have been pretty bland and not that interesting.  Today was salad with chicken.

January 16: Do you owe someone money?  Does someone owe you money?

I am currently up to date on all of my debt.

January 17: What's the oldest thing you are wearing today?

The oldest thing I am wearing today is my hairband which I have had for three years.

January 18: What was peaceful about today?

Getting to go for a walk with Cat after her karate class today was very peaceful.  I think that we will make that a habit.

January 19: List three foods that you ate today.

Banana, Cottage cheese, Twistos.

January 20: Are you holding a grudge? About?

I try very hard not to hold grudges, I think the negativity does bad things to you.  I express my bad feelings as best I can when I am feeling them.

January 21: What are you looking forward to?

I am really looking forward to Toronto ComiCon this year.  Mike and I have a great couples Cosplay planned.

January 22: Are you seeking security or adventure?

I am somewhere in the middle, I want the security of knowing I could go on an adventure if I wanted to.

January 23: Do you need a break?  From what?

I definitely need a break from work.  There are just so many things going on right now.

January 24: If you were going to start your own company what would it be?

If I could open my own business it would be a coffee/bookshop.

January 25: What makes you "you"?

I am a positive, unique person who tries to incorporate my geek loves into every aspect of my life.  That is what I am made up of.

January 26: Today you needed more?

Sleep, I got up super early to come to work super early and I could have done without that.

January 27: Which art movement best describes you? (Surrealism? Modernism? Dada?)

Finger painting is a type of art right?

January 28: How do you describe home?

A work in progress.

January 29: What was the last TV show that you watched?

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

January 30: What do you want to forget?

I want to forget about some of the weird dreams I have when I eat feta before I go to sleep.

January 31: Who do you want to be?

I want to be myself.  But if I can't do that then I want to be Pinkie Pie!

Connect The Dots

I have been super stressed lately and looking for a way to relax in the evenings that truly works for me.  I tried the adult colouring thing but that did not work for my mind.

I found one of these adult connect the dots books in the bargain bin at the grocery store when I was walking laps to hit my step goal the other night. (it was too cold outside)  After flipping through it I thought it was worth a shot and brought it home.  Mostly I was just fascinated with  how complicated that they were, 400 dots, 900 dots...sign me up.

I did my first one tonight and it was so relaxing.  Using a ruler to draw repetitive tiny lines, apparently that is my idea of a zen state.  It was only a tiny connect the dots and after I was done I felt like I had a power nap. Amazing!!  My lines could use some work though, even with a ruler they are not straight.

Do you connect the dots?

Celebrate The Small Things: January 27, 2017

Celebrate the Small Things is hosted by Lexa Cain along with wonderful co- hosts Writing Off The Edge and The Cyborg Mom.

This week I am having trouble finding anything to celebrate, it has been a long and rough week at work.  I do have a job though so there is that.

Mostly I guess I am celebrating that it is the weekend and I get to have a glass of wine.

What are you celebrating?

My Favourite.... Holiday

My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info: My Favorite Meme.

My favourite holiday is Halloween.  I love dressing up and seeing the kids so excited to go out and interact with the community.  I love making up little packages to give out.

I wear two costumes at least every year.  One for work and one to take the kids out trick or treating.

I also love to see the house that really go all out decorating for Halloween.

Family Pictures Take One

We had some family pictures taken as a present to my mom a few weeks ago and I just got them back yesterday.  Ace is starting to go through that I don't want to go do anything stage so he refused to smile but I think they still turned out sort of all right.

One of these days I am going to figure out how to rotate pictures on the blog, then we will really be working out well.

And here is the first one of the whole family, where at least he attempted to smile.  Ugh! Preteens!

There are some more great shots that I am looking forward to having of me and the kids and one of me and my mom and my sister that is fantastic.  This really sets the tone for the year though, I want to have more pictures of my kids with my parents and even with us so that one day when they are sitting down with their kids they can share the memories.

Whether those memories are formal pictures like these or silly selfies taken on a cell phone.

Do you make sure to be in the pictures with your kids?

Mean Girl Makeover Review

Bullying doesn't end in the hallway anymore--with a smartphone or tablet, it can happen "anywhere." According to the Ambassadors 4 Kids Club, one out of every four students is bullied--and 85% of these situations never receive intervention. Parents, students, and teachers alike have amped up discussions on how to solve the bullying problem for a networked generation of kids.

Written by bestselling author, Nancy Rue, each book in the Mean Girl Makeover trilogy focuses on a different character's point of view: the bully, the victim, and the bystander. The books, based on Scripture, show solid biblical solutions to the bullying problem set in a story for tween girls.

"You Can't Sit With Us" tells the story of Ginger Hollingberry, a new sixth grader at Gold Country Middle School. Ginger has been the brunt of teasing and taunting from the queen bee of GCMS, Kylie Steppe, and her so-called Wolf Pack. Kylie and the Pack favor a new and especially hurtful medium of taunting: social networking. What follows is a candid look into the growing world of cruel cyberbullying, showing kids that bullying doesn't always end at school--it can now follow you even into your home and torture 24 hours a day.

As horrible that it is to say, I am so glad that I grew up before the age of cyber bullying.  Being bullied to your face was more than bad enough.  Raising kids in an age where it is so prevalent makes me anxious every day.

Ginger's story is an sad one for me and shows just how cruel kids can be and exactly how much our kids internalize before they seek help from adults even when the adults are making every effort to help.  Imagine how much they keep in when they think the adults won't help them?

The Gratitude Journal Project

For the first time since I have started blogging I did not do a big goals or resolutions post this year.  Not because  I don't have any, I do but because they are a little more broad spectrum this year and I thought that maybe they would need their own posts to come out when the time was right.

One of my goals for 2017 is to show more gratitude for the things that I have, which is in turn part of a larger goal but we will get to that another time.  I have tried to start a Gratitude Journal before but I got lost in trying to make it prefect rather than jumping right in and getting started which is a problem that I have a lot.  Then I remembered that I have this wonderful blog, which is like an online journal.

A place where I can just go and keep track of the things that I am grateful for and publish it or not.

Today I am grateful for:

-my job, I work with wonderful people.
-my children.
-my mom

Do you keep a gratitude journal?

Celebrate The Small Things: January 13, 2017

Celebrate the Small Things is hosted by Lexa Cain along with wonderful co- hosts Writing Off The Edge and The Cyborg Mom.

Just when I think I will have more time to myself I don't...why is that always a thing?

Anyhow, this week I am celebrating a pretty big victory, since I started on my weight loss journey late last year I have lost 26lbs and I feel fantastic.

What are you celebrating this week?
